Police Warning Residents Not To Fall For Sheriff's Office Scam

If you are ever contacted by anyone demanding payment in gift cards or Green Dot cards, contact police.

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — Another scam, this one spoofing the Bucks County Sheriff's Department, is making the rounds, police said.

On Feb. 2, a Bedminster Township resident told police they were contacted by a person reporting to be a sergeant with the sheriff’s office. The sergeant, they said, was seeking more than $2,000 in Green Dot cards to rectify an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear for jury duty.

The scammer spoofed the sheriff’s office phone number so it appeared to be a legitimate call, police said.
