Scooter Thief Wheels Trouble Straight Into The Restroom In Warrington

WARRINGTON, PA — A Jenkintown man is facing theft and drug possession charges after he was caught trying to steal a scooter from the Walmart store.

On Sept. 17, Warrington Police were called to the store for a report of a retail theft in progress.

Upon arrival, a loss prevention employee told police that 25-year-old Jeffrey Stevens Grubbs of Jenkintown passed all points of sale with a scooter without paying.

A store associate advised Grubbs that he needed to pay for the scooter, but Grubbs instead took the scooter into a restroom.

Officers located Grubbs inside the restroom, where he had removed the scooter from its packaging and was using a knife to begin assembling it. The total value of the stolen merchandise was $221.34.

During a search of Grubbs, officers located a straw with residue in his pants pocket. Officers also found a clear baggie containing a white powdery substance inside a waist pouch.

Grubbs was taken into custody and transported to the police station, where he was processed and interviewed about the theft. During the interview, Grubbs told police that he did not have the money to purchase the scooter and knew while he was inside Walmart that the situation was going to “end bad.”

When officers asked Grubbs if the substance was methamphetamine, he acknowledged that it was, police said.

Grubbs was arraigned by Judge Wertman, who set bail at $25,000 unsecured. He is charged with receiving stolen property, retail theft, simple possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
