Here are just a few reasons from Discover Doylestown as to why you should shop locally:
1. It’s friendly
At a small business, chances are you’ll be waited on by the owner, a member of their family, or someone who reports directly to the owner. This proximity to the boss makes for better customer service – something that can be hard to find at larger stores.

2. Your local economy will benefit
Shopping small creates and supports local jobs. Each time you purchase a product or a service on Main Street, you are helping to pay the salary of a friend or neighbor. When you support a local business, you’re also supporting your town, city, and neighborhood.
3. Small business gives back
Research shows that over 90% of small-business owners contribute each year to their communities through
volunteering, in-kind donations, and/or local sponsorships. That means your purchase of a good or service at a small business is a great way to“pay it forward.” In comparison to what the local independent businesses recirculate locally, less than 14% of purchases at big box chain stores stay within the same community.
4. The misconception of high prices
Often times Small-businesses are labeled with the misconception that because they are not a “big box”
they will have high prices. The reality is, with some exceptions, most stores have no control over a product’s price, but rather are provided a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP), which dictates what they
must sell it for. Over time they can then offer special pricing or sales to help move inventory, regardless if they’re “big” or “small.”
Discover Doylestown has partnered with Doylestown Borough and McCaffrey's Simply Fresh for a number of amazing features throughout the holiday season such as free parking every weekend during the holiday season at all three-hour meters in the downtown area
Since Doylestown is famous for the great boutiques and shops, they’re putting the perfect theme together for the 2016 holiday season: “Sleep In, Shop Small, Give Big!”
Starting on Saturday Nov. 26, the numerous shops who are part of Discover Doylestown have banded together to encourage shoppers to think outside the “Box." Shops will be opening at 10 a.m. to allow shoppers a good night’s sleep just before coming to Doylestown to shop small.
Plus, Discover Doylestown has organized a community give back piece, where coupon books for many shops around town will be sold for $10 each along with a Discover Doylestown tote bag, and a portion of the sales will be donated to the Doylestown Fire Company.
