Speaker Series To Explore Doylestown And The Jazz Age

President of the Dorothy Parker Society will be the guest speaker at the Doylestown Historical Society's July 30 program.

DOYLESTOWN BOROUGH, PA —The Doylestown Historical Society continues its guest speaker series this month with a trip back in time to the Jazz Age, a period in the 1920s and 1930s known for its artistic endeavors and in which jazz music and dance styles gained worldwide popularity.

Guest speaker Kevin Fitzpatrick, the president of the Dorothy Parker Society and a representative of the Dorothy Parker family, will share insights into this dynamic era, which saw the emergence of such renown poets and writers as Dorothy Parker.

The time period also brought renown to Doylestown and Bucks County, which become a haven for artists, writers, and musicians who influenced American history.

Parker was among many New Yorkers who found a second home in Bucks County in the 1930s. Famous Manhattanites such as Moss Hart and Kitty Carlisle, George and Beatrice Kaufman, and S.J. and Laura Perelman, also moved to the area around Doylestown.

Fitzpatrick is the author of "Dorothy Parker’s New York, the Algonquin Round Table New York: A Historical Guide," and many more. He is the founder of the Dorothy Parker Society.

Guests attending the talk will be immerse in the ambiance of a speakeasy featuring infectious music of the era and a live demonstration of a popular Jazz Age event - crafting cocktails.

The event takes place on Tuesday, July 30 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Doylestown Historical
Society Barn, located at 56 S. Main Street, Doylestown 18901.
