Take a Hike… at Chapman Park

For a quick fix of walking that offers a little bit of nature and a small graveled ring, the edge of town may have the answer.

Tucked into the area near where outbound traffic is heading to Buckingham, Chapman Park may be fairly small, but it still has a lot to offer. And at just about three minutes from town, it’s perfect for a quick lunchtime meander for workers.

A ring where East State and East Streets meet provides a simple path to walk on, and one can take a small bridge over to the borough pond and stroll around that, too.

Sadly, the wooden calisthenics stations that used to dot the ring disappeared in the mid-2000s; one broke apart and instead of getting fixed it seemed they just all got removed over the next few weeks.

There are also paths into a wooded area for those interested in a more natural experience, and on even the hottest days the drop in temperature is markedly refreshing and the pavement cool to the touch. If you have your dog, make sure his Frontline is up to date, because there’s sure to be ticks just waiting to hop on for a ride.
