"Tanked" Stars Installing Aquarium in Doylestown Restaurant

The stars of the Animal Planet show are inviting people to come to the big reveal Thursday evening at the Sweet Spot on Main Street.

Wayde King and Brett Raymer have created a fish tank headboard for a bed in a furniture store, a spade shaped fish tank for a tattoo parlor and a tank full of jellyfish for the Minus 5 ice bar.

Now, they can add a Doylestown restaurant to their resume.

The stars from the Animal Planet reality show "Tanked" have been in Doylestown since Tuesday. They are working to install an aquarium at the Sweet Spot, the new Caribbean-American restaurant at 33 N. Main Street.

Their handiwork is scheduled to be revealed today, and they're inviting the public to come watch.

"The guys’ plan right now is to reveal at 5 p.m.," Sweet Spot owner Karen Tancrede told Doylestown Patch on Wednesday. "Things are a little bit fluid, because this is a custom install, but they are encouraging anyone who wants to see it to come by."

Tancrede and her husband Serge opened the Sweet Spot May 1. They dreamed of creating a place in Doylestown where people could relax and have fun without having to break out a $100 bill.

They took their inspiration from the relaxed vibe of the Caribbean, in homage to Serge's native Haiti.

"We wanted things that reflected the islands," Karen said. "We have the fresh fruits on the frozen yogurt bar, and fun games and good music, and great food. What would be better to reflect the Caribbean than a fish tank - a big one."

So Serge searched online and learned about the largest aquarium manufacturing company in the country, Acrylic Tank Manufacturing. Based in Las Vegas, the family-owned business is run by King and Raymer, two brothers-in-law who also star in a reality show about their business. "Tanked" just started its second season on Animal Planet.

The Tancredes first contacted the company back in November. The long wait for the tank has been worth it, Karen said.

"It’s going to be amazing," she said, of the tank. "It’s huge, and it’s going to have an interactive submarine game in it. The kids can actually move the submarine around inside the tank."

The tank will be installed in the restaurant's front window, so people passing by on Main Street can see fish and water as they walk up the street, Karen said.

"Our whole goal is to create a place in town that wasn’t a bar, wasn’t a fancy restaurant, and had great food that didn’t cost a lot," she said. "It’s food, fun and friends with an island flair."
