Thief Pretends He's Working At Local Office, Takes Cash: Cops

Authorities in Buckingham are investigating a commercial burglary in which a brazen thief pretended to be working but stole from a cash box.

BUCKINGHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — Authorities in Buckingham Township are investigating a commercial burglary in which a brazen thief allegedly sat a desk, pushed around some papers, and greeted a janitor before stealing $250 from a small cash box, police said.

The incident was reported on Aug. 19 at about 8 p.m. at Matossian Eye Associates, located in Hyde Park on Route 202 in the Doylestown section of township.

According to police, a janitor was in the building cleaning and when she came out of the office area, she saw a man sitting behind a desk. He was moving objects and papers around, and the cleaner greeted him.

He never stopped what he was doing, police said, and greeted the janitor in return. He then made two more trips to the desk area.

The office manager was later notified, and told authorities that the man was not an employee. There was no damage to the entryway; it is possible the suspect had a key, police said.

The suspect was captured on camera inside the building. He is described as a black male in his mid 40s. He was wearing a black shirt and a black Phillies cap. He had a wedding ring on his left hand, and a watch on his left wrist.
