Like all theaters across the country Town & Country Players made the difficult decision to cancel its entire 2020 season due to the Covid-19 pandemic. President Matt Schultheis explained, “We take the health and safety of our members, patrons, cast, crew and community very seriously and determined that canceling the season was really the only thing to do.” But in the true spirit of a “community” theater, the Board got to work immediately determining how they could continue to serve the community in this time when people needed an outlet more than ever. The Sunshine Committee was formed and tasked with keeping the members performing, participating and giving back to the community.

Chaired by Sarah LeClair, the Sunshine Committee has already organized food drives and card/letter campaigns, created digital media for senior centers and produced a series of virtual performances that are free to the community. Since the shutdown began Town & Country Players has utilized the Zoom videoconferencing platform to present Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, the Classic Greek Tragedy Antigone, and J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan featuring a cast of 38 actors. Information about show dates and times will be posted on the theater’s website, and Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Response to the Sunshine Committee’s work has been enthusiastic. LeClair happily shared, “Our theater’s volunteer membership has actually grown every month this year, which is incredible when our physical building is closed. Our members give back in so many ways, and this year has tested and proven that Town and Country Players is a theater to watch and support!”
