To Kickoff Worthwhile Wear "Act Challenge" in Plumsteadville on May 3

PLUMSTEADVILLE, PA — Worthwhile Wear Ambassador, Ultra-cyclist and Race Across America (RAAM) participant Michael Phillips of Prevail Racing will visit Worthwhile Thrift in Plumsteadville to take part in a 50-mile training ride, with Dan Emr, the founder of Worthwhile Wear.

They will also help kick off Plumstead Christian School’s participation in the “Act Challenge” to benefit Worthwhile Wear’s work on behalf of human trafficking victims.

The training ride is one of many that Michael Phillips will do to prepare for Race Across America (RAAM), a 3,000-mile race from Oceanside, CA to Atlantic City, NJ that will take place from June 11 to June 23, with a 12-day time limit. Phillips is one of 20 elite cyclists participating in this race. His chosen cause to support during RAAM is Worthwhile Wear’s “Act Challenge.”

Worthwhile Wear is a non-profit dedicated to reaching lives affected by human trafficking and restoring these survivors with a sense of belonging and worth. The road to healing requires a comprehensive response. It's not enough to offer a single solution, which is why Worthwhile Wear first engages survivors where they are, in our communities, then offers long-term stability with safe housing, and finally provides them with opportunities for financial independence by employment through its thrift stores. This wraparound approach is how Worthwhile Wear offers the most comprehensive services to survivors of trafficking in the state of Pennsylvania. To learn more visit, https://worthwhilewear.org/

About Michael Phillips

Michael Phillips, founder of Prevail Racing, launched into cycling 11 years ago after a doctor told him that he needed to change his lifestyle. Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, Michael, an inactive cancer survivor, took the doctor’s advice. Proper diet and exercise turned his life around and made a huge difference in his health and wellbeing. In 2017, he began competing in ultra-distance cycling events.

In 2023 Phillips was a gold medal winner for his finish in the 928-mile “Race Across The West” ultra-cycling challenge. This top tier finish qualified him to participate in the grueling 2024 Race Across America (RAAM) which begins on June 11. RAAM is a 3,000-mile race from California to Atlantic City, NJ within a 12-day time limit and is considered the toughest bicycle race in the world according to Mike and the ultra-cycling community.

Phillips will be raising awareness of human trafficking as a Worthwhile Wear Ambassador while training for and competing in the RAAM. His training and participation in the race will take place during the Act Challenge, the Worthwhile Wear (worthwhilewear.org) national human trafficking awareness event.
