Victorian Wake, Card Party Welcome Busy October At James-Lorah Home

On Oct. 19 and 26, the VIA will partner with the Bucks County Civil War Museum for a House Tour and Victorian Wake.

DOYLESTOWN BOROUGH, PA — October will be a busy month at the James-Lorah Memorial Home, headquarters of the Village Improvement Association of Doylestown (VIA).

On Friday, Oct. 18 the VIA will hold its annual game and card party in the home’s auditorium, located at 100 North Broad Street in Doylestown. The event begins at 12 p.m. Community members are invited to join in the fun and may bring their own cards and games.

Tables for 4 or 6 guests are available. Lunch, beverages and desserts will be served and there will be door prizes and raffles. Tickets, priced at $18 per person, sell quickly. Reservations may be made by clicking here.

On Oct. 19 and 26, the VIA will partner with the Bucks County Civil War Museum for a Halloween-themed event, a Haunted House Tour and Victorian Wake.

Ghosts of Doylestown war heroes will rise from the grave to recount their experiences of life and death at war at the Civil War Museum. An authentic Victorian wake will honor one of the fallen Union soldiers and visitors will learn about some unusual 19th century death customs and superstitions at the James-Lorah Home.
