Weekend Fair In Lahaska To Further The Cause Of Peace In Bucks County

BUCKINGHAM, PA — More than 65 Bucks area nonprofits, crafters and entertainers will come together on Saturday, September 30 for the 23rd annual Peace Fair at the Buckingham Friends Meetinghouse in Lahaska.

Sponsored by Bucks area Quakers, the fair will showcase what local nonprofits are doing to further the cause of peace, social justice, care of the environment, healthy living, and other fields of interest to area residents.

Headline entertainers will include bluegrass band Tookany Creek, Latin band Eco del Sur, singer/songwriter Mindy Murray, and kids’ songster EcoMan, as well as students from the Prerna School of Dance in Yardley performing traditional Indian dance.

Local artisans and fair-trade vendors will offer hand-woven fabrics, ceramics, wood turnings, paintings and photographs, and eco-friendly wares from around the world.

There will be games and activities for all ages from toddlers to seniors, including a self-powered “Peace Train” for the youngest and a dunking tank for the daring. A variety of traditional and vegan/vegetarian food is on hand, and it is said that the Peace Fair’s homemade chili is some of the best in the county.

Visitors can tour the historic Buckingham Meetinghouse, a National Landmark that has remained virtually unchanged for over 250 years. The Poetry Reading featuring current poet laureate of Bucks County Tom Mallouk, as well as several past poet laureates, will take place at midday with an open mic at the end.

The fair runs from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Buckingham Friends Meetinghouse and School, on York Road in Lahaska, “next door” to Peddler’s Village. It is handicapped accessible, and admission and parking are free, although donations are gratefully accepted.

The Peace Fair has become a tradition for Bucks area families looking for a fun-filled experience while learning about how organizations and individuals are promoting peace and social justice in Bucks County and around the world.
