What Your Stance Says And Does To Your Golf Swing

It affects your balance, your rotation, and your overall swing mechanics. Adjusting the flare of your feet can help improve different aspects of your swing significantly. Make sure you’re doing it appropriately given what’s going on in your swing.

1. No Flare (Neutral Stance)

• Feet positioned straight ahead
• Provides a stable and balanced stance
• Limits lower body rotation but offers more control
• Ideal for shorter shots or players who prefer minimal movement

2. Right Foot Flare (Toe Out on Trail Foot)

• Encourages a bigger backswing and better hip turn
• Reduces tension in the right knee and hip (for right-handed golfers)
• Can help prevent excessive sway and improve weight transfer
• Useful for golfers looking to generate more power

3. Left Foot Flare (Toe Out on Lead Foot)

• Helps with smoother weight transfer during the downswing
• Encourages a more open follow-through and prevents early hip stall
• Can reduce stress on the lead knee, especially for players with joint issues
• Commonly used by players looking for a more fluid finish
