Woman Files $1M Lawsuit Against Doylestown Salon
Maryanne Troia alleges she was denied a job at Essentials Salon and Day Spa due to her age.

A Doylestown woman has filed a $1 million lawsuit against a local hair salon after she says she was denied a job there because of her age.
The Intelligencer reports that Maryanne Troia filed the suit against Essentials Salon and Day Spa after someone she said was a manager told her they “only hire young girls.”
Troia, who was 54 when she applied for the position and has since found another job, is seeking damages that would compensate for the income she would have made through age 70, plus emotional distress, punitive damages and fees, the Intelligencer reported.

Troia has reportedly filed a charge of discrimination with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and a complaint with the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission.
A manager at the salon said the person Troia spoke to was not a manager and there were simply no jobs available at the time, the Intelligencer said.
