You’re in the ‘Wrong Mindset’
Whether you go to the driving range or any course and you start hitting shots to 'warm-up' for your game…

At that moment, you’re setting yourself up for failure.
When you get into the mindset of ‘hitting shots just to warm up and get yourself ready…’
You focus on hitting a ‘volume’ of shots, instead of focusing on hitting the ‘right’ shots consistently. You neglect your form, your posture, your swing…

And even though you might feel that you’re ready -- after the game starts, you quickly realize that your shot’s way off (even though you ‘warmed up’)
Which brings us to point #2...

2. It destroys your Golf Game (and your body)
Hitting balls with no other purpose but to just ‘get in the game’ allows your body to not be in tip-top shape.
You tire yourself out, put a strain on your joints and muscles (because your posture is poor) -- you’re telling your body it can do ‘whatever’ when you line up your shot…
And because of that lack of consistency, you’ll end up slicing your shots off the course, chunking it and hitting it fat (sending the dirt further than the ball), and you’ll probably end up snapping your Club in half because you’re embarrassed by scoring a triple bogey (again).
What to do instead:
Replace the words ‘warming up’ with ‘Practice.’
‘How will changing the ‘words’ help me in any way, Daniel?’
Here’s the thing:
Whatever you say you’re going to do, changes your thinking in anything that you do.
And Golf is a mental game.
When you say you’ll practice; your mind’s in the right place.
You’ll take your time, and focus on each swing to the best of your abilities. You’ll become more consistent, and your shot will get better.
Now, when you say you’ll warm up…
You’re just swinging with no real intent. You don’t care where the ball’s going to go (you just hope that it’s getting better), and a good ‘warm-up’ is breaking a bit of a sweat (not actually hitting better shots).
And let’s be honest here:
It’s better to shoot 100 times correctly and consistently, vs 1,000 and doing it half-assed, and justifying it as a ‘warm-up.’
Unless you’re okay with playing ‘Bogey’ Golf, then go ahead and hit the ball without a care in the world.
But…
If you’re committed to getting your swing at 100% consistency, drive the shot 200+ yards and hit the fairway in regulation like clockwork, putt easily even if it’s an upward slope...
And break into the 70’s (without getting lucky or relying on the wind to carry your shot)...
Start by changing the phrase ‘warm-up’ with ‘practice.’
So, next time you play a game on the course, focus on practicing and getting your shot better -- not warming up and swinging randomly to ‘break a sweat.’
