Young Patients At Doylestown Hospital Have New Reading Material Thanks To A Local Business Woman's Donation

More than $1,000 worth of children's books will help keep young patients happy during hospital visits.

Young patients at The Carol & Louis Della Penna Pediatric Center at Doylestown Hospital will have some new reading material to help them relax while in the hospital thanks to a book seller's donation to the healthcare organization.

Michele Millar, an independent consultant with Usborne Books & More, raised more than $1,000 with the help of friends, family and area businesses to purchase new books, according to Doylestown Health. Through its Literacy for a Lifetime grant program, Usborne Books provided a 50 percent match allowing the total donation to reach $1,650.

The books are available to patients in The Carol & Louis Della Penna Pediatric Center as well as throughout Doylestown Hospital in areas where young patients are found, including the Emergency Department, Doylestown Health said.

“I just wanted to make someone’s child smile this holiday season,” Millar said in a statement. “Books are so powerful and provide an escape to a magical, wonderful, fun world. If I can make one child just a little bit happier by providing a great book for them to ‘escape’ into, then I’ve accomplished what I set out to do.”

“Our young patients love to read and will certainly be thrilled to choose a book from this new collection,” said Kathy Donahue, Doylestown Health’s director of maternal-child services. “We appreciate this generous act and thank those in our community who continue to keep our patients in their thoughts.”
