Community Partnership: Northampton Post Acute, St. Luke’s Sports Medicine Team Up to Support FBTAA
Youth Baseball Organization Receives AED Equipment and Training
Two local healthcare providers teamed up this summer to support Freemansburg Bethlehem Township Athletic Association. Northampton Post Acute in Easton donated an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), while St. Luke’s Sports Medicine provided hands-on AED and emergency response training to the association’s coaches and league representatives.
The Freemansburg Bethlehem Township Athletic Association has been chartered in youth baseball programs for over 70 years, providing recreational opportunities for Bethlehem Township and Freemansburg residents ages 4 to 19.
“This baseball organization is a true anchor for local youth sports, and we are proud to support its investment in our community,” said Melissa King, administrator at Northampton Post Acute. “An AED is a vital piece of equipment for protecting not only young athletes but coaches, parents, grandparents and spectators who attend games. Sudden cardiac events are far more common in adults than youth athletes, so having an AED readily available helps protect everyone at the field.”

Jorge Perez, St. Luke’s Sports Medicine director of sports medicine relationships, and Tomas Montanez, relations coordinator, led the coaches’ training with the assistance of Dawn Witzel, director of nursing at Northampton. “We are so grateful to the St. Luke’s team, and especially Jorge and Tomas, for their partnership,” Witzel said. “For Northampton, caring and protecting our community is at the heart of everything we do, and St. Luke’s shares that mission.”
