Easton Schools Get $529,000 Grant
The Keystones to Opportunity Grant will fund Easton's Family Connection.

The Easton Area School District will get $529,000 in state grant money.
State Rep. Joe Emrick, R-137 -- who represents part of the school district -- announced the funding yesterday.
The grant is actually for $2.1 million, since it will last four years, district Superintendent Susan McGinley said last week, with Easton getting $529,000 each year.

That money will go to support the program, which the district had considered cutting to balance this year's budget.
The grant comes from a larger pot of money from the U.S. Department of Education. Emrick noted in a news release that Pennsylvania was one of six states to get the money.

"The money is to be used to enhance student literacy outcomes, birth through grade 12, in addition to improving classroom environments and developing a local literacy plan," he said in a news release.
