Director Garry Marshall is Lafayette Graduation Speaker

Garry Marshall, an award-winning TV and movie producer/writer/director, will give 2012 commencement address, the college's newspaper reported this week.

According to The Lafayette, the school's Presidential Advisory Committee on Commencement chose Marshall in part because he's a friend of one Lafayette's trustees, and in part because the school wanted a speaker tied to the college's new .

Marshall's resume dates back to the 1960s. He first found major success in the 1970s, working on The Odd Couple and creating Happy Days. He's also directed a number of romantic comedies, including Pretty Woman, The Runaway Bride, and -- more recently -- New Year's Eve.
