East Penn School District Lends a Helping Hand to Communities Impacted by Hurricane Harvey

EPSD students help hurricane vicitms

Hurricane Harvey dumped more than 50 inches of rain and left thousands of people homeless and without needed supplies after it made landfall in August in Texas. Our East Penn schools have been joining together to help school communities impacted by one of the most devastating hurricanes in U.S. history. Take a look at all of the great things our students have been up to:

Jefferson- Jefferson SOARS into HoustonJefferson Elementary helped their elementary school counterparts at Cimarron Elementary School in Houston. Cimarron is a building that houses Pre-kindergarten through 5th grade, just like Jefferson, and their families have been heavily impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Cimmaron’s principal, Cynthia Galaviz, has indicated that their greatest needs at the current time include student uniforms and clothing.
Alburtis Elementary- Students, parents, family, friends, and community members helped support the Alburtis Helping Hands After Harvey charity event. Together they raised $783! This money will be donated to HISD-Houston Independent School District to aide in their purchase of materials for students who were impacted by the hurricane.
Emmaus High School- EHS Red Cross club held an Adopt a Classroom supply drive in conjunction with Lincoln Elementary 4th grade classes.
EPSD Administration- EPSD Administration Building held a Casual for a Cause Day to benefit Hurricane Harvey victims. Administration raised $267.00 which was donated to the Houston Food Bank.
Macungie Elementary– Macungie students and families collected over 20 boxes of goods to mail to a school 30 minutes outside of Houston, Texas which is feeling the effects from Hurricane Harvey. The love and support from Macungie Elementary will directly benefit the students and families of The Conroe Independent School District in Conroe, Texas.
Shoemaker Elementary- Shoemaker has adopted a school in Houston and will be collecting school supplies in October.
Willow Lane Elementary– Willow is hosting a “Pajama Program” to collect new pajamas and books for the children of Texas.
LMMS– NJHS students have organized Penny Wars to support American Red Cross Hurricane Relief. Collection dates will be October 2 – October 19.

A big thank you goes out to everyone involved in helping our Texas friends. Our EPSD community is truly a special group of individuals who truly care about the people whose lives are changed by tragedy. Keep up the great work!
