📰 News we're reading

• Lehigh Valley food safety report: Turkey thawing in the sink, dusty kitchen area, 'black, mold-like substance' on ice machine (mcall.com) — Several Emmaus eateries, including Art Beat Studio & Cafe, Fuel Nutritional Smoothie Cafe, and Sweet Memories Café, were recently inspected by state food safety officials. All three were found in compliance, though Art Beat needs a certified food-safety employee. The broader Lehigh Valley report also flags issues like improper thawing, dusty equipment, and mold-like buildup on an Allentown ice machine.

• Eastern Pennsylvania Conference football Week 1 review: Freedom's win was as impressive as any in a 10-6 week vs. outside foes (mcall.com) — Emmaus football fans saw running back Anthony Attare rack up 89 rushing yards, two touchdowns, and 21 receiving yards in a tight 20-13 loss at Neshaminy. The Eastern Pennsylvania Conference opened with mixed results, but Emmaus is back in action soon, hosting Phillipsburg in Week 2. The roundup also highlights standout performances and struggles from other Lehigh Valley teams.

• Zoning meeting on Emmaus Avenue data center in Allentown postponed (mcall.com) — A proposed data center at 2401 W. Emmaus Ave. in south Allentown, just outside Emmaus, hit a delay after a key zoning hearing was postponed at the request of both sides. A nearby children's nonprofit is appealing the city's decision that a data center is automatically allowed there, arguing it's very different from traditional manufacturing. The new hearing date has not been set.
