What Happens Next With Emmaus Council Race?

With five candidates battling for three open seats, it was known going into Tuesday’s primary race that all five candidates for Emmaus Borough Council could be on the ballot in November—provided the candidate got at least one vote this time around.

Here are the unofficial results from Tuesday’s primary race for Emmaus Borough Council:

• Brent Labenberg, Incumbent Republican, 393 votes
• Julian Stolz, Republican, 241 votes
• Wesley Barrett, Incumbent Democrat, 352 votes
• Roy Anders, Democrat, 310 votes
• Trevor Schneck, Democrat, 288 votes

Emmaus Borough Council members serve a four-year term.

But some council candidates in Tuesday's primary are also running for other offices, which leaves questions about who will actually end up on the ballot for council seats in November.

Wes Barrett

Emmaus Borough Councilman Wesley Barrett, a Democrat, also ran for Lehigh County Commissioner in District 5 in Tuesday's primary and won his party's nod in that race.

In an answer to a Patch election questionnaire prior to Tuesday's race, Barrett said that his run for commissioner gives "Emmaus residents a rare opportunity to have direct representation at a County level, something we have not had in recent memory. That said, elections are legendarily unpredictable and I am eager to continue to serve our community and this is the reason I have put my name on both ballots."

Barrett was working the polls on Tuesday and unable to take time out for an interview, but told Patch via email that he will answer questions about his intentions for November either late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

We don't yet know if Barrett will endorse another borough council candidate.

Julian Stolz

Republican Julian Stolz currently serves on the East Penn School Board in addition to running for council and mayor on Tuesday.

Stolz endorsed incumbent Mayor Winfield Iobst last week. Stolz said that he would withdraw his name from the mayor race as soon as he can legally do so.

Stolz told Patch in an interview last week that he would comment on his intentions in his bid for Emmaus Borough Council in the coming weeks. He cannot legally hold a seat on both school board and borough council at the same time.
