Tuesday's Election Day Experience Around Emmaus Patch

• Tuesday morning, parking spaces around Emmaus High School, Emmaus 6th District, were almost non-existent.
• 300 of 1,200 registered voters registered to vote in Emmaus District #1 had already voted as of 11 a.m. Tuesday. District #1 votes in Emmaus Moravian Church.
• Ed Prescott, Judge of Elections from Upper Milford West, responded to rumors of problems related to photo IDs at his polling location at Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Prescott said that the biggest problems at his location stemmed from voters who thought they were registered showing up to vote, only to find out they were not registered. For example, he said that an older gentleman who had not voted since the year 2000 found that his name had been purged from the voter rolls. Prescott gave the gentleman the paperwork needed to register to vote
• Overall, Prescott said his poll workers had been asking for photo ID all day Tuesday without any complaints from voters. Most, he said, feel that it's "about damn time" that ID is required at the polls.

Polls have shown the presidential race between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney tightening in the days before the Tuesday election.

In the last two presidential elections, the Democrats had a hold on Emmaus and the Republicans triumphed in Upper Milford Township.

Sen. John Kerry was 2004’s winner in Emmaus, beating President George W. Bush by less than 100 votes, 2,753 to 2,677. Fellow Democrat Barack Obama had a more substantial margin of victory in 2008, defeating Sen. John McCain 3,098 to 2,361.

In Upper Milford, the margins were not overwhelming but Bush defeated Kerry, 2,160 to 1,696. The same went for McCain, who got by Obama, 2,041 to 1,889.
