NY Restaurateur Dead of Suicide in Local Cemetery

A New York restaurateur known for three eateries in Brooklyn shot himself to death in the Chestnut Hill Cemetery parking lot on Chestnut Hill Church Road in Lower Milford Township, according to a Morning Call report, which cites Lehigh County Chief Deputy Coroner Paul Hoffman.

Colin Devlin, 42, owned the restaurants DuMont and DuMont Burger. State police at Fogelsville are investigating Devlin's death.

He may have been upset over finances as one of his restaurants—called Dressler—recently closed and he found out this week that he was denied a loan, according to the N.Y. Daily News.

Devlin was called a pioneering restaurateur by the Wall Street Journal, which said he disappeared Wednesday after a business meeting.

Devlin sent his wife a text message asking her to take care of their children, according to several reports including one by Eater. The couple has a second home in Pennsylvania although reports like one from Grub Street did not specify where.

DuMont restaurant opened in Brooklyn's Williamsburg neighborhood in 2001.
