Root 174 is open for business!

So the last time I was able to write anything in this space, our restaurant still looked like Legume, it had been raining every day for what felt like two months, and I was still scared about leaving my last job (which I loved) and starting something new.

This time around our space is completely different and is very much our own, it's a million degrees outside (give or take) and we're all settling into our new jobs at Root 174. At the time of writing, it is less than two hours until our third ever dinner service, and the reception to what we're doing has been astounding so far. That's not to mention the warm welcome we received from everyone else around the neighborhood and all the awesome businesses on Braddock Ave. We've got to see lots of new faces and meet lots of new friends in the past couple weeks, have gotten to feed quite a few hungry residents of the "174" area, and have run out of places to put flower arrangements and bottles of bubbly courtesy of all the great folks who are supporting us as we open and grow.

So, please come down for dinner or just to say hi, and look for us to make some changes coming up. We still have some additions to make to our space, including curtains, some more shelving and storage and some more paint and artwork for the walls. Also look for our menu to be changing very often as Chef Keith is inspired by what's seasonal and tasty.

So we're finally open. We made it! It was hard, and all of us are running on too little sleep, pizza from D's and custom-roasted, Root 174 blend coffee from La Prima, but as I have been keen on saying lately, in six months we're going to be sitting around and saying "Remember when we opened?! That was crazy!" And it has been crazy. And difficult. And the most fun I've ever had.
