Community Center's Social Media Project Gives Everyone LGBTQ Pride

Happy Pride (as they say!) This weekend marks Pittsburgh's annual Pridefest celebration and tens of thousands of people will flock to Downtown for the Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon festivities.

Pittsburgh's Gay and Lesbian Community Center (GLCC) will be part of the traditional festivities, but has also announced plans for a small social media effort - #PghPride. (Note: # or a hashtag is a Twitter symbol used to indicate a category or a tag for a tweet.  So one might tweet about the #Pirates or #fireworks or even #rushhour.)

On Friday, June 16, the GLCC is urging twitter users throughout the region to donate one tweet to support pride and encourage your followers to also follow their organization @GLCCpgh. Just one tweet with the popular hashtag #FollowFriday or #FF if you please.

“Anyone can show their Pittsburgh Pride by participating,” explains GLCC Chair, Lyndsey Sickler. “This event is designed to raise awareness that safe spaces like the GLCC have a social media presence.”

The organization will also be raffling off gift cards and other items during Pridefest on Sunday, June 16. Anyone can enter by tagging the GLCC on Twitter or Facebook between 12:01 AM to 11:59 PM on that day. Winners will be drawn randomly.

“We are happy to have terrific partners in our social media programs,” states Sickler. “These are organizations that recognize the importance of a strong LGBTQ community center and support Pittsburgh’s Pridefest.”
