Edgewood's Fashion Critic Reacts to Royal Wedding

Ian McDonald has a few things to say about the fashion choices at Friday's Royal Wedding!

who aspires to be a fashion designer, and who met Project Runway's Tim Gunn last month.

He had to wait until he was home from school to watch the Royal Wedding between England’s Prince William and Catherine Middleton, but he did have things to say about the fashion he saw.

Catherine Middleton, wedding ensemble:

Reaction: "Oh my God…it’s perfect. She looks perfect. I thought she was going to wear a skinny dress, but this one is perfect."

Ian suggests: Nothing to change here. It’s perfect.

Catherine Middleton, evening ensemble:

Reaction: "That is really cool. And the fuzzy jacket might be nice if she gets tired and needs to go to sleep part-way through the party. The diamond belt is really cool."

Ian suggests: Make the dress a little shorter, like below the knees, so that it would be easier for her to dance, and she can’t fall.

Prince William:

Reaction: Cool. But having that one set of wings there all by itself is weird. All the other guys have a million little metal things hanging on their suits, and he just has that one set of wings.

Ian suggests: Put the wings on the jacket, underneath the (sash), or get a bunch more metal things and put those on the (sash) so the wings won’t be lonely.

Pippa Middleton - maid of honor:

Reaction: "That’s the dress I thought the princess was going to wear!" (Note: That’s exactly what Tim Gunn said, though Ian didn’t know this when he said it.)

Ian suggests: She should have had the flowers on the side of her head instead of the back.

Prince Harry:

Reaction: "What’s that crazy gold stuff all over the front? It looks like someone threw spaghetti at him."

Ian suggests: Get all that stuff out of there. All he really needed was a loop.

Queen Elizabeth:

Reaction: "She looks like a marshmallow Peep! If she wanted to wear yellow, it should have been a lighter yellow and not electric lemon yellow."

Ian suggests: Put her in a very light pink, instead.

The Hats:

Reaction: "Those are some wacky hats. Some of them look really cool, but some of them are too crazy. I think those ladies with the really crazy hats just want attention."

Best hats: Victoria Beckham and Sophie Rhys-Jones.

Worst hats: Beatrice and Eugenie. In fact, Ian re-designed their hats for them (photos included here.) He thought Eugenie’s peacock-cophony should have been replaced by a small, fitted hat (similar to a bowler) in fuchsia with an asymmetrical Kelly-green band, and blue feathers. Beatrice’s hat, he decided, should have been shaped more like Charlene Wittstock’s, in a light brown, with pink feathers and accents.
