3 Dead In Pittsburgh-Area Fire

PITTSBURGH, PA — Three people, including two minors, perished in a fire early Thursday in an area north of Pittsburgh.

The blaze occurred in the 1300 block on Walnut Street in Sandy Lake Township, Mercer County.

The Pennsylvania State Police identified the victims as Malinda Abrams, 48; Amelia Abrams, 16; and Leroy Abrams, 12.

The specific causes of their deaths have yet to be released.

Two adults were able to escape the blaze.

Multiple pets also perished in the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Leroy and Amelia were both students in the Lakeview Local School District in Stoneboro. In a statement, the school said it will be offering grief counseling for students and staff.

In a statement to WFMJ-TV, the district offered the following comments:

"This is an incredibly difficult time for our students and staff and the entire Lakeview community. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the family, friends and all those impacted by this devastating loss."
