Community Corner

Summer News at Wilkins School Community Center

Here's an update from Kay Wetzel and the crew at WSCC.

The Wilkins School Community Center is now working with the Pittsburgh Childcare Cooperative, which is hoping to operate out of the WSCC this fall.

The Pittsburgh Childcare Cooperative will be using a classroom for the working parents and the PlaySpace for the children. Member parents will take turns, spending part of the day at work and the other part minding the children. Please read Katy Rank Lev’s short description of the cooperative:

"Are you a self-employed or work-from-home parent seeking an affordable-yet-enriching childcare solution -- one that allows you to keep your children close by and still work in peace? Check out the Pittsburgh Childcare Cooperative!

"A childcare cooperative would offer a unique service in the Pittsburgh region. This differs from a traditional daycare because parents remain on site, alternating shifts playing with our children and working on our own projects.

"Parents get a peaceful place to work, with designated time to do so, close enough to nurse or comfort our children. Members would share both childcare duties and values aligned to foster creative, positive, and inspired experiences for our children."
