📰 News we're reading

• James C. Roach 1943-2026 (fcfreepresspa.com) — Gettysburg is mourning James C. Roach, a longtime National Park Service leader who helped shape interpretation at Eisenhower National Historic Site and Gettysburg National Military Park. Friends and neighbors can pay their respects at a memorial service on Saturday, October 3 at St. James Lutheran Church, followed by interment at Evergreen Cemetery in Gettysburg.

• Adams County Sports Update – September 26, 2026 (gettysburgconnection.org) — Gettysburg athletes had a busy week, with girls volleyball narrowly falling to Greencastle in five sets and boys soccer dropping an overtime heartbreaker to Boiling Springs. The roundup also highlights strong performances by neighboring Adams County schools in tennis, soccer, cross-country, and volleyball, giving local fans a clear picture of how area teams are stacking up this season.

• Professor Mwangi wa Gĩthĩnji is the New Department Chair (umass.edu) — A new economics department chair at UMass Amherst previously served as associate professor of economics and chair of Africana Studies at Gettysburg College, deepening his ties to the region. Gettysburg readers may appreciate how his work on development, inequality, and decolonization was partly shaped during his years teaching locally.
