'We are grateful': State awards Harrisburg nonprofit $1.9M grant (pennlive.com) — YWCA Greater Harrisburg just secured more than $1.9 million in state grants to expand housing and support services for veterans and their families in the Harrisburg area. The funding will bolster programs that prevent homelessness, help veterans secure stable housing, and provide employment support, with a special focus on underserved groups like women, elderly, and mentally ill veterans.

Harrisburg police officer won't face jail time in assault of woman: court docs (local21news.com) — A Harrisburg police officer received two years of probation and four months of house arrest after pleading no contest in a 2025 assault case, avoiding jail time. The sentence includes intervention programs, restitution, and a no-contact order, while city officials have not yet confirmed whether he remains employed with Harrisburg police.

Shapiro administration unveils plan to revitalize downtown Harrisburg (newsitem.com) — Downtown Harrisburg is set to receive $64 million in new public and private investment as part of the "Harrisburg Works for All of Us" revitalization plan. Developed with input from more than 4,400 residents, the effort aims to boost local businesses, activate the riverfront, and expand arts, culture, and recreation options for people who live and work in the city.
   

4. Another tool library opens in central Pa. (pennlive.com) — Harrisburg residents now have a growing network of nearby tool libraries, including the Harrisburg Tool Library on North Third Street and a newly opened Central Pennsylvania Tool Library and Makerspace in South Lebanon Township. These memberships let neighbors borrow everything from basic hand tools to specialized equipment, saving money, cutting waste, and offering workshops that build DIY skills and community connections.
   

5. Penn State THON and Four Diamonds mark 50 years of partnership in Harrisburg (wgal.com) — A long-running pediatric cancer fundraising partnership between Penn State THON and Four Diamonds was celebrated at the Pennsylvania State Capitol in Harrisburg, highlighting more than $273 million raised since 1977. Organizers also previewed THON 2027, set for February 19 weekend, emphasizing its impact on care and research for children and families across the region.
