DREXEL HILL, PA — A fire broke out Tuesday night at the former Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill.
Building security reported the fire around 11:45 p.m., according to KYW.
The fire was quickly located in the utility area of the basement and knocked down, Upper Darby Fire Chief Nicholas Martin told NBC10.
About 75 firefighters responded to the incident.
Delaware County Memorial Hospital was a 225-bed facility before it closed in November 2022.
It was among four eastern Delco hospitals owned by now-defunct Crozer Health that has closed in recent years, leaving the area a desert for emergency care.
The building at 501 N Lansdowne Ave. is set to be demolished later this year. It will become the site of a new career- and technical-education center for the Upper Darby School District.
