Delco Employees to Wear Red Friday in Fight against Heart Disease
The Delaware County Council announces National Wear Red Day for Friday.
The announced a resolution at its meeting Tuesday declaring that Friday is National Wear Red Day.
County Council is encouraging its employees to support the fight against heart disease, which is the leading cause of death in both men and women nationwide, by wearing red to work on Friday.
“It is a simple, powerful way to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke. It is also an opportunity to make a promise to keep your heart healthy,” the resolution states.

Along with wearing red on Friday employees are encouraged to stop by the Healthy Heart Table that will be set up from noon until 2 p.m. Friday in the ground floor lobby of the Government Center.
Mercy Health System will be providing free blood pressure screenings and information regarding heart disease.

According to the resolution, heart disease is preventable by eliminating behaviors like smoking and a poor diet and increasing physical activity.
Vice Chairman of the Council Christine Fizzano Cannon read the resolution and presented it to members of the community during the meeting.
Laureen Carlin, director of community services for Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, Lindsay Warren, director of development for Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, Cindy Flynn, of Media and a four-time stroke survivor and ardent American Heart Association volunteer, and Maureen Hennessey Herman, director of the Delaware County Department of Intercommunity Health Coordination, all accepted the resolution.
