Delco Man Jailed On Abuse, More Charges Dies In Prison

UPPER DARBY, PA — A Delaware County man who was imprisoned at a Montgomery County correctional facility died last weekend, authorities said.

Grant was using a "homemade stinger device" to boil water inside his cell when the incident occurred, according to authorities. The burns he received were to his back.

Grant was booked at SCI Phoenix in 2021 and was serving a 2- to 5-year sentence after a drug conviction in Philadelphia.
The Delaware County Daily Times reports Grant received an 8- to 16-year sentence after pleading no contest to physically abusing his infant daughter in Delaware County back in 2020.
Grant was on detainer after serving time for the Philadelphia case.
He was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest for treatment, where he died at 6:56 p.m. Jan. 14.
Pennsylvania State Police were notified and are investigating.
An autopsy was completed by the Lehigh County Coroner's Office, which described his cause of death as pulmonary thromboemboli caused by water burns.
