Congratulations to these three outstanding humanitarians!

HAVERTOWN, PA – A School District of Haverford Township student and two district teachers were recently awarded a humanitarian award that is presented in honor of a longtime district supporter.

Haverford Middle School eighth grade student Laura Seavey, as well as Haverford High School teacher Faith Irons and Haverford Middle School teacher Jason Langin, were presented the Domenick J. Recchiuti Humanitarian Award.

The award is given to individuals whose volunteer service enriches the community of the School District of Haverford Township in the spirit of a true humanitarian, the district said.

Seavey’s involvement in school and community volunteerism is exceptional and she is truly motivated to help others, the district said.

"Laura does not look for accolades, but certainly deserves them," the district said. "We would like to recognize her for being a wonderful, caring, and accomplished person as well as thank her for the work she has done to help and support her community."

Seavey takes the initiative in many instances to recognize, support, and serve others. She is actively involved in school, athletics, and leadership in school. She was actively involved in an initiative to recognize our crossing guards, has participated in many school and community service events, volunteered in the community Challenger League to support other children, and has organized fundraisers for the YMCA.

"Laura always projects a positive attitude in everything she takes on,values her family, friends, and teachers, and is incredibly responsible," the district said. "She leads by example, is a friend to all, is committed to her studies, and allows her heart and conscious to guide her in helping and supporting others."

Irons will be retiring after 44 years in the School District of Haverford Township.

"She has a true volunteer spirit that shows through just some of her many and varied service activities," the district said.

She is instrumental in coordinating the Diaper "Dryve" providing diapers to low income families, coordinated the Haverford HS food drive for the Giant Partnership, and she creates quilts for Children’s Hospital.

She also organizes students to help with each Elementary School field day, attends every prom bringing her sewing kit - just in case of a wardrobe emergency! Faith volunteers for every Best Buddies event, Red and Gold events and bakes for the Athletic Awards ceremony.

Irons also conducts fundraising through graduation signs to benefit the Carol Bane Scholarship. She facilitated many trips of the child development students to the elementary schools and has done so much with
the child development Day Care at HHS.

"The amount of lives Faith has touched over the years is immeasurable," the district said.

Langin is the moderator of the Haverford Middle School Student Council. Through his leadership and example, these students are eager, enthusiastic, and service-oriented.

"Jason Langin and his group contribute so much not only throughout the Middle School but also for Haverford Townships and beyond," the district said. "This is all done on his and the students own time."

Langin and his team organize a food drive for the needy of Haverford Township, partner with Haverford Green to clean up, plant, restore community grounds, go to Philadelphia every year on MLK Day to paint, refurbish and/or build for impoverished schools, and more. This year they built a library, the district said.

Langin teaches the students to give back and "pay it forward."

"Every year the program expands with his generosity," the district said. "While Mr. Langin would never draw attention to himself, he does deserve recognition for all he contributes!"

Domenick Recchiuti’s long association with the School District began in the 1950s when his children attended the former Chestnutwold Elementary School, the district said.

Recchiuti served as president and treasurer of the PTO setting in motion a lifelong commitment to school and community that spanned four decades.

He was an active community volunteer who also served as a School Director, devoting much of his time to helping others. He was a familiar and welcome presence in all seven schools and at school events. He cared deeply about the quality of education that every student received and he spent his life serving others.

Congratulations to these three outstanding humanitarians!
