Haverford Township Issues Snow Emergency For Major Winter Storm

Residents are advised of parking restrictions on snow emergency routes and urged to minimize travel during the storm.

HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, PA — Haverford Township will be under a snow emergency from 5 p.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Monday, officials said. The township could modify the snow emergency timeline, however.

The declaration aims to facilitate snow removal efforts and ensure safe passage for emergency vehicles. Heavy snow accumulations of 14 to 18 inches are anticipated, with wind gusts potentially reaching 40 miles per hour.

During a snow emergency, certain activities become unlawful in the township. These include parking on any snow emergency route, driving on a snow emergency route without proper traction devices such as snow tires or chains, and operating a vehicle that becomes stuck on a snow emergency route due to inadequate traction equipment.

The township plans to deploy approximately 40 trucks and operators for plowing and salting. The township's first goal is to open one lane of traffic in each direction on every road.

Additional crews will manage sidewalks and other municipal facilities. Snow operations will commence with salting, followed by plowing once snow reaches 3 to 4 inches. During the storm's peak, crews will prioritize state roads and major arterials, assisting Police, Fire, and EMS with emergency responses.

Residents are encouraged to park vehicles off the streets and in driveways to aid plowing efforts. Final cleanup shoveling should be delayed until after plows have completed their passes. Property owners are responsible for clearing sidewalks in front of their property within 24 hours after the storm ends.

It is unlawful to shovel or plow snow from private property into any street or sidewalk.

Brush collection scheduled for Monday has been canceled. Residents with power outages should contact PECO at 1-800-841-4141.
