Havertown's Historic Brookline Boulevard Theatre Commemorated
Havertown Health and Fitness gets plaque honoring the old theater.
Back in 1983, Havertown's Brookline Boulevard Theatre closed. It has since bvecome Havertown Health and Fitness gym. But now the theater-turned-gym has a plaque commemorating the historic landmark thanks to one Havertown resident, according to Delaware County Daily Times.
The outlet reports resident history buff Bob Colney commissioned the plaque from Franklin Bronze Plaques in Franklin, Pa. Colney, being the historian and proud Havertown resident he is, paid for the more than $800 plaque himself.
According to Cinema Treasures, the Brookline Boulevard Theatre opening in 1928 under the name "Boulevard Theatre." The theater sat 725 seats in its single-screen room, according to Cinema Treasures.

The plaque discusses the theater's opening ceremony in 1928 that was celebrated with a champagne gala and over 800 attendees, Delaware County Daily Times reports. The plaque also says the first film shown was Mack Sennett’s “The Goodbye Kiss.”and the last show was Robert Redford's “Ordinary People," the outlet reports.
“I’m very happy with it,” Conley told the outlet. “It’s my way of giving back to Havertown. We’re a township that loves our history. We embrace our heritage. I thought, no one’s going to do anything on Brookline. Let me do it."

"I can honestly look back and say, it’s remembered. Every time somebody looks at the plaque, the Brookline is remembered," he told the outlet.
