Mother Of Slain Havertown Teen Sues Philadelphia School District

PHILADELPHIA — The mother of a boy fatally shot outside a Philadelphia high school in 2022 is suing the School District of Philadelphia.

According to Fox 29, Meredith Elizalde, mother of Nicolas Elizalde, has filed a suit against the district related to the deadly Sept. 27, 2022 shooting that killed her son and hurt several other teens as they left a football scrimmage at Roxborough High School.

NBC10 reports the suit, which also names the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association as a defendant, claims inadequate security at the scrimmage led to the death of her son, who lived in Havertown.

Five people have been taken into custody in connection with the shooting.

They are Dayron Burney-Thorn, Saleem Miller, Troy Fletcher, Yaaseen Bivins, and Zyheid Jones.
