National Guard Donates Meals To Delco Pantries, Shelters, More

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — About 84,000 meals worth of food was donated to Delaware County food pantries, senior centers, and homeless shelters Tuesday during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Delaware County Council, the Department of Human Services and the Department of Emergency Services coordinated a food delivery to help stock the shelves Delco's assistance centers.

Members of the Pennsylvania National Guard Tuesday delivered dozens of pallets of food to Interboro High School, Drexel Hill Middle School and Chester City Hall. The donation included approximately 28,000 meals per site.

The delivery was made to supplement various food donation programs that have been coordinated across the County. Schools and organizations across the County are providing grab and go meals to residents in need.

Senior centers and homeless shelters have also been coordinating food distribution for the elderly and homeless.

"Thank you to the Upper Darby and Interboro School Districts for their assistance and support throughout this process. They have helped to coordinate collections and donations for families in need," said Delaware County Council Vice Chair Dr. Monica Taylor. "The County also extends its thanks to Chester City Mayor Thaddeus Kirkland, Chester Fire Commissioner Chief William Rigby and members of the County’s Department of Emergency Services and Human Services for their assistance unloading the deliveries today and coordinating distributions."

Taylor, joined by Upper Darby School District officials and members of the County’s Department of Emergency Services and Human Services, helped to unload the dozens of pallets of food at Drexel Hill Middle School Tuesday afternoon.

"This is an example of Delco coming together when our community needs it the most," said Taylor.
