New Smoke Shop Catching Eyes in Haverford

A new Haverford business has caught the attention of the area’s residents, police and government.

During public session at the Haverford Township Commissioners meeting on Monday, Havertown resident Bill Corcoran spoke about Greyboy’s a new Darby Road business, calling the tobacco shop a “head shop” and asking the commissioners to keep a watchful eye on the business.

“I have a big problem with [the business],” he said. “My wife went in and said it’s all loaded up … in the back, it’s all bongs. You can’t say its tobacco, because no one smokes tobacco out of a vaporizer. It may be legal, but it’s not right.”

Corcoran asked that the township use “every legal and zoning law they can” to “prevent a bad element” from coming to the area.

Commissioner Bill Wechsler said that he and the police department were aware of the shop, and that “it is being watched.”

“We are being vigilant,” he said. “We can’t regulate what kind of businesses come in. We don’t associate this type of business with Haverford Township, but everyone has a right to rent a place and open a business.”

Wechsler said that “from a police and codes perspective,” the business was being watched.
