Petition Deadline Looms For Haverford Candidates

Seats up for grabs include Board of Commissioners, district justice and the school board

The deadline for filing petitions to be a candidate in the primary elections for Haverford Township is Tuesday.

People who is interested in running in the primary election on May 17 must file their papers with the Delaware County Election Bureau by 4:30 p.m. on March 8, said a spokeswoman for the election bureau.

The November general election in Haverford Township will include races for Haverford Township Board of Commissioners in Wards 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9; and a district justice race, said Bill Wechsler, president of the Haverford Township Board of Commissioners and the Ward 9 commissioner.

Five of the nine seats on the Haverford Board of School Directors are open for races in the upcoming elections, said Rachelle Considine, secretary for Richard Henderson.  Henderson is the business manager for the Haverford School District and also serves as secretary for the school board.

The five school board seats currently belong to Maxine Murdoch, Lawrence Feinberg, Patricia Giambuzzi, Joseph Martin and Karen Renshaw, Considine said.  Considine said she did not know which of the five school board members, if any, were running for re-election.

The length of a school board member’s term is four years, according to information about the school board on the Haverford Township Web site.
