Philip Lozano Vies For District Judge Seat
The Democrat wants to see judges held accountable in Haverford Township.

Philip Lozano wants to provide “a new voice in leadership in Haverford Township.”
Lozano, a 37-year-old Democrat, is running for magisterial district judge in Haverford Township against incumbent Republican Judge Bob Burke in the November general election.
Lozano grew up in the Ardmore neighborhood of Lower Merion Township and has lived in Havertown for the past six years with his wife and three young children.

After graduating from Franciscan University in Ohio with a bachelor of arts in psychology in 1996, Lozano spent three years working with troubled youth who lived in group homes.
He then worked as a pension plan consultant for several years before deciding to become an attorney.

Lozano attended Temple University Beasely School of Law at night for four years while he was working full-time as a pension plan consultant for the Philadelphia law firm Duane Morris.
Lozano received his law degree in 2006 and is currently an attorney at Jennings Sigmond law firm in Philadelphia, where he litigates on behalf of multi-employee pension plans, which are the pension plans for large, international unions, he told the Haverford-Havertown Patch.
When companies fail to pay what they are contracted to pay under the plans, Lozano sues on behalf of the pension plans for working people in federal court, Lozano explained.
Lozano’s past experience in politics include serving as a Democratic Party committee person in Haverford Township and as a minority inspector of the Delaware County election board.
His volunteer work includes mentoring teenagers and young adults, and sitting on the board of Heart of Father Ministries, which is a group of international missionaries.
Lozano said he decided to run for magisterial district judge because of something that happened in 2009.
“I became very concerned because we had three district judges in Delaware County arrested in 2009” and convicted of crimes, Lozano said.
As a result of that, Lozano said he became “concerned about the level of professionalism and accountability of judges and that’s why I decided to run.”
Lozano said people should vote for him because, “I think we need a new voice in leadership in Haverford Township. We’ve had decades of single-party dominance at the township and county levels and I think that leads to lack of accountability.”
Lozano said Haverford Township is being sued over civil rights issues in federal court and he thinks if there were people who could “act as watch dogs in local government” then residents would not “see the runaway abusive authority that you see from time to time in the township.”
Lozano said he also supports the slate of Democratic candidates who are running for commissioner seats “because I think we need a new voice in Haverford Township.”
