Popular Ice Cream Shop Expands To Delco; Grand Opening Set
One of the best-known ice cream parlors in Philadelphia's western suburbs is about to open a new shop in town.
HAVERTOWN, PA — One of the best-known ice cream parlors in Philadelphia's western suburbs is about to open a new location in Havertown.
Handel's Homemade Ice Cream will hold the grand opening for its new Havertown shop at 11 a.m. Thursday on 13 W Benedict Ave.
Founded in 1945, Handel's has more than 200 locations across 20 states. The Berwyn franchise is one of the Main Line's best-known ice cream shops.

The Buchanan family, which owns the Berwyn shop, will also operate Handel's of Havertown.
Handel's replaces Al Pastor, a Mexican restaurant that closed in January after nearly two years in business.

The closure wasn't due to low sales, owner Joe Monnich told Patch. It was because another business — later revealed to be Handel's — put forth a great offer to buy the property. Al Pastor's Exton location remains open.
