Players of the Stage: Theater That Cares

Community theater that gives back to the community.

Players of the Stage (POTS) is a Christian, nonprofit theater group that introduces students (K-12) to community theater right here in the Lehigh Valley. The shows are meant for the whole family to come and enjoy. Don’t think, however, that just because the actors are students, the plays are amateur. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Barshinger/Gerdes family has extensive theatrical experience that rivals any in the Lehigh Valley. They cast carefully, and provide drama camps to coax the best performance from each performer.

Their professionalism isn’t the only thing that sets them apart from community theaters. The proceeds that they’ve raised go entirely to charities such as the Allentown Rescue Mission and this year, Care Net of the Lehigh Valley. In the past, .

Until the group can afford their own theater, shows are being held at Living Hope Presbyterian Church, 330 Schantz Road, Allentown. Don't let the location fool you—when you get inside, you'll feel like you've stepped into a "true" theater. Then when the curtain rises, you'll know that it is, in fact, an experience that rivals any community theater.

The troupe’s current production is "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," and is actively searching for sponsors to advertise in their Playbill. Sponsorships run from $20 all the way up to a full page ad, which is $125. If you’re interested in donating to this worthy cause, they need to hear from you by April 4. To showcase your company, and to show your support for both POTS and Care Net, please contact Beth Barshinger either by email at tgbembus@yahoo.com or at 610-923-6742 or 610-216-3195.

Seats are filling up quickly for the upcoming show. There is no ticket price, but donations for Care Net are gladly accepted. Showtimes are April 25, 26 and 27 at 7pm. On Saturday, April 27, there is an additional show at 2pm, perfect for a family outing. To reserve your seats, please write to potstickets@gmail.com or call 484-515-3051.
