Welcome the Year of the Rabbit with a delectable Chinese New Year celebration! On Thursday, January 27, Northampton Community College's culinary arts and restaurant management students will present "Classical Cuisine: Chinese New Year" at the Gates Center of Alumni Hall on the Main Campus. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres and a silent auction will begin at 6:00 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m.
Food will be prepared by culinary arts students under the direction of NCC's chef/instructors. The Chinese-themed menu will include:
Butlered hors d'oeuvres: Crab in crispy wonton cup with chili aioli; scallion pancakes with hoisin duck confit and candied carrots; Napa, shitake and red pepper spring rolls with orange honey dipping sauce; pork satays with soy-ginger glaze and black & white sesame seeds.

First course: "Loaded" wonton soup: chicken-filled wontons, garnished with julienned roast pork, lobster, baby bok choy and baby corn.
Second course: Vegetable fried rice and Chinese five-spice, ginger and mirin-braised short rib; broiled scallop and shrimp teriyaki skewer, Chinese long beans and lotus chip.

Dessert: Almond tart with honey ginger-poached pear and coconut ice cream with orchid garnish; fortune cookies.
