High School Hosts First Annual Talent Show

Students of all ages participated in the first-ever event in support of the Saucon Valley Supporters of the Performing Arts.

Fancy fingered piano tunes, skillful dancing and soulful singing were only some of the talents demonstrated during First Annual Talent Show “FUNdraiser,” which was held Friday, May 20.

Sponsored by the Saucon Valley Supporters of the Performing Arts (SVSPA), the show featured more than 20 different acts, all of which were performed by students from the .

According to the talent show program, “SVSPA is a parent group whose mission is to bring performing arts opportunities to all children in grades K-12. SVSPA strongly believes that the school district’s performing arts program is a key element in its formula for excellence.”

The group’s mission is to enhance the school district’s educational commitment to the performing arts. It is strictly a volunteer organization.

President Sandy Pandelios said the SVSPA organization was founded five years ago by herself, Denise Roche (current treasurer), Roslyn Kuba and Maureen Calvo. The goal, Pandelios said, is to sponsor as many programs and workshops as possible. With recent budget cuts in education, many of these programs are being cut.

“We want to be able to do what we can to keep it alive in our school,” Pandelios stated.

Pandelios became involved in supporting the performing arts when her daughter Dalia, who sang in the talent show, was given the opportunity to play a lead role in “Beauty and the Beast” at the age of nine. She has been involved ever since.

"We do all we can to help the (Saucon Valley School District) Fine Arts Director Sal Ritz at all our shows," Pandelios said. "This way he can focus on the show he is directing, not other things surrounding the show."

The SVSPA meets the first Tuesday of each month during the school year at 7pm in the Saucon Valley High School teacher lounge.
