10 years ago when I turned 30, I remember sobbing and saying to myself, "This is not where I wanted to be at 30 years old." In my mind I had always pictured myself happily married with two children, working in a job that fulfilled my spirit, living in a house that was filled with love. Let's just say, that isn't even close to where I ended up being at that age.
Why do we do this to ourselves? Are we setting standards and goals that are too far to reach? Or are we looking around at our peers and wondering what they are thinking, wishing we had what they had? I know it is different for everyone. Who says you have to have a certain life by the time you are a certain age?
So how do we stop this biological clock?
While educating myself on life coaching and living more positively, I came across two statements that made me think; "Everything happens for a reason" and "Everything happens on Divine timing." As I looked back on my life, I could see the reasons why some things happened and was grateful for the lessons I had learned. But the Divine timing meant that I had to have patience. UGH! Someone in a workshop that I had attended said to me, "You wouldn't want to have a doctor perform surgery on you if they hadn't been educated, right?" Well of course not. Life is all about learning and being patient. Divine timing means that things will happen when we are ready, as long as they are good for our journey. And we really don't know when we are ready, only a Higher power knows that.
Knowing that, a bunch of my friends and I started choosing a word for the year back in 2011. This was a word that was going to be worked on and researched for an entire year. Of course my first word was patience.. LOL! And in that year I did learn that being patient for things to happen and staying positive was much more worth it than forcing something to happen before its time. If it is meant to be, it will be and we don't have to be concerned with the 'how'.
Trying to make something happen only results in a negative outcome. We stress, worry, feel old, and really we stop living. Our focus ends up always being in the future and not in the present moment. While I do believe setting goals, having visualization boards and saying affirmations, does bring into our lives what we want (or something better suited for our journey), patience is the key. My clients and I have started writing out our intentions for the best possible outcome for all areas of our lives as well as setting small and large goals for ourselves. But this doesn't mean that we shouldn't appreciate where we are right now. Having gratitude for what we have knowing that more will come with faith and patience, will ensure a life full of more blessings.
Age is just a number. Turning 40 was cake for me. Is it because I have finally reached my goals? Nope. My viewpoint is different. I know that everything will come to me as it is meant to. I have let go of that biological clock. It helps that I don't feel 40 years old but even if I did, life is an exciting adventure. I have learned to appreciate each moment, live in each moment, be grateful in each moment, staying excited for what is to come.
Stop being so hard on yourself. Appreciate where you are, but know what you want for the future. Stay positive and have faith. Things happen when they are meant to happen.
Peace, love and JOY!
