Rep. Bob Freeman Named a 'Legislative Hero'

The liberal group Keystone Progress has honored Freeman and 19 other lawmakers.

The man who represents Hellertown and part of Lower Saucon Township in the state House in Harrisburg has been named one of Pennsylvania’s 2011 Legislative Heroes by a liberal advocacy group.

PoliticsPa reports that state Rep. Bob Freeman (D-136) is among 20 Democrats honored by Keystone Progress for their work on health care, unemployment compensation, the environment, voting rights, education and more.

Keystone Progress will honor the lawmakers in February at the annual Pennsylvania Progressive Summit, to be held this year in Philadelphia.

Freeman was among a handful of legislators who voted against the Castle Doctrine, which redefined an individual's right to use a gun or other deadly force in self defense outside a home or business. Under the old law, use of deadly force was not justifiable if a person could safely retreat, except when the threat was made inside a home or business.

Freeman, of Easton, has a constituent service office at 215 Northampton St. in Easton. The office is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. His office phone number is 610-253-5543 and his website is www.pahouse.com/freeman/.
