Until Monday, the Saucon Valley team was the only girls soccer team in the Colonial League that was undefeated in league play. When the Panther girls took their show on the road to Southern Lehigh in a rescheduled game, they found the Southern Lehigh team was determined to change that statistic. Tough defense by Southern Lehigh kept the Panther offense from being able to get a solid look at the goal, while SoLeHi goaltender Melanie Novak blocked 10 shots on goal.
Undoubtedly the wet field conditions, along with the unseasonably hot and humid weather, had an impact on both teams. Neither team could rely on long passes or sustained sprints to dominate the game, and the game shifted to short pass play.
In the end, the Spartans would score on a Sami Moyer goal, with the assist provided by Kelsey King.

Despite the loss, Saucon retains its first place position in the Colonial League South Division, followed by Wilson (8-2-1) and Southern Lehigh (7-2-1). The next week will prove crucial to determining which team comes out on top, with both Saucon Valley and Southern Lehigh scheduled to play Wilson and Moravian (6-2), two other top-ranked teams. With the race between the teams so close, a winning or losing streak for any of the teams could easily reorder the current rankings.
Colonial League tournament play will commence May 11 with semifinals, and with the championship game scheduled for May 13, weather permitting.
