• Blair County Prison Board OKs design for new prison (altoonamirror.com) — Blair County officials meeting in Hollidaysburg have approved the design for a new 454-bed prison near Duncansville, a major project that will replace the aging Mulberry Street facility and add dedicated juvenile housing. The plan, contingent on buying an 83-acre Blair Township site, drops a proposed new magisterial court building that would have replaced the Union Street court in Hollidaysburg to trim about $50 million from costs. Leaders hope the move keeps the project on track to potentially break ground early next year. 
• Trio of Lady Lions break meet records on first day of action at D6 track meet (altoonamirror.com) — Hollidaysburg athletes made a strong showing at the District 6 Class 3A track and field championships at Mansion Park, with Reuben Manfred qualifying for states in the 1600 and Cole DeLattre winning the triple jump. Several Hollidaysburg teammates also placed in field events and pole vault, while Altoona’s girls set new meet records. The meet continues today with more finals and state berths on the line.
