2 Mosquito Samples Test Positive For West Nile In Horsham

Just a day after it was announced nearby Hatboro and Upper Moreland would be sprayed, two more positive samples were found in Horsham.

HORSHAM, PA — Just a day after it was announced nearby Hatboro and Upper Moreland would be sprayed, two more mosquito samples tested positive for West Nile Virus in Horsham.

The samples were found at Colby Lane Detention Basin and Chestnut Creek Park, just off of Lower State Road, the Montgomery County Health Department said.

As of Tuesday afternoon, no spraying had been scheduled for Horsham.

Spraying in Hatboro and Upper Moreland will occur on Wednesday, Aug. 16 from 8:15 p.m. to 11 p.m. within the yellow block below:

Officials advise residents to utilize insect repellents to avoid bites. Clothing and shoes can also be treated for permethrin to help prevent bug attacks.

The risk of being infected with West Nile from a mosquito is very low, officials said, but residents are still urged to take simple precautions, like using repellent and removing standing water from their property.West Nile Virus typically causes fever but can lead to neurological illness in extremely rare cases.

The state's first case of West Nile Virus in a human in 2017 was reported in Montgomery County last week.
